Using a combination of approaches, our trainers will customize your training experience for your specific needs & goals. Our balance of leadership and affection helps establish a clear line of communication between pet and pet parent.

This varied approach helps us individualize your classroom time, leading to better end results. Dogs of all ages have benefitted from our training programs.

Here are our three major goals:

  • We’ll teach your dog to respond to verbal commands including sit, stay, lay down & more
  • Your family will come away from training knowing how to use our training methods at home and beyond
  • We’ll provide the tools & coaching to help your dog retain their new knowledge

Dog Training Options

There’s no single training option that’s best for every family, so we offer a variety of programs to suit your needs.

STAY & TRAIN.

Every dog is unique, which means they learn and progress differently. The Stay & Train program allows the trainer to get the most done in the shortest time frame. We train, and you maintain! The trainer will work one-on-one at the dog’s pace to customize their education. While they stay overnight, dogs are strategically socialized with other people and dogs. They’re immersed in different environments, work on behavior and basic manners, learn obedience skills and practice confidence building. Specific goals can be discussed at your training orientation! Stay & Train includes:

  • Comfy, climate-controlled overnight accommodations
  • Daily training sessions
  • Playtimes and interaction
  • Daily wellness checks
  • Take-home materials and homework
  • Ongoing phone and email support

DAILY TRAINS.

Daily Trains are a great option for people who are on the go, want the added playtime, exercise, socialization (with dogs and people), and need high quality training for their dog. It’s a great training time-saver in the long run! Drop your dog off in the morning and pick up late afternoon, we’ll take care of the rest. Dogs are rotated between training and activities throughout the day.

PRIVATE LESSONS.

During these one-on-one customized lessons, our trainer will come up with an overall game plan for you and your dog based on your needs or goals. From here, the trainer will instruct you on how to create the desired behaviors in your dog while discouraging unwanted behavior and offering tips for you to be proactive at home, in multiple environments, and around distractions. Private lessons are all onsite but can be scheduled offsite as well.

GROUP CLASSES.

We offer a range of group classes for multiple skills levels and focuses. Many pet parents prefer a group setting and benefit from the classroom approach. Each dog will still receive individual attention from the trainer. Some of our group classes include:

  • Obedience classes
  • Agility classes
  • Puppy classes
  • Canine Good Citizen

STUDY HALLS.

Study Halls are the perfect mix of a private lesson and small group studies. Dogs and owners are purposely paired together, focused on pushing each other toward similar goals utilizing the added distractions. There is freedom to decide the curriculum based on the needs of the dogs and owners who attend. One-hour session.

WORKING PACK WALKS.

These one-hour group walks are a unique experience utilizing our surrounding real-life environments as our training playground! Specifically, they are in-town or park pack walks where a group of dogs, along with their people, go for a working walk together in a structured environment, led by DePAW trainers. These walks can safely and effectively provide your dog with exercise, training, impulse control, and socialization, which makes this a great outlet for ANY dog!

While the dogs are walking and exploring, they are also learning to practice self-control, develop social intelligence, and listen to their people in a world with a variety of distractions. It is working and training, but mostly it’s a FUN program to do with your pooch! Call us for scheduling and more information!

PUPPY SOCIALIZATION.

Socialization is the key to helping a puppy grow up happy and healthy. In this class, you will learn how to help properly introduce your puppy to all the new people and things they will encounter in their young lives. Topics covered will include things such as children, items on wheels, medical/vet equipment, and other things that puppies find scary. While your puppies get a chance to interact with each other, we will go over appropriate play and other puppy parent information.

  • Canine treadmill class
  • Leadership skills
  • Trick training
  • Confidence building
  • And more

Dog Training FAQ

What vaccinations are required for training?
To keep our guests safe and healthy, we require all dogs be up to date on their vaccinations for rabies, distemper combo, Bordetella, and a negative fecal exam. We highly recommend the canine influenza vaccinations for all dogs but require it for dogs who live over 15 miles from our Geneva, IL facility. During active local outbreaks of canine influenza or leptospirosis, we may temporarily require these vaccinations without prior notice.
What happens during the training evaluation?
You’ll meet one-on-one with a member of our professional training team to discuss your goals, challenges, and experiences. We’ll explain our processes, tell you about our programs and facility, and help determine the best training approach for your situation. Do you offer puppy training?
Yes! Starting training early is one of the most important things you can do for your dog. Puppies are welcome to join us for training. We offer a special puppy curriculum which builds a foundation for basic obedience, home manners, and early social skills.
